Cyclobenzaprine is not recommended for people who have had an overactive thyroid, heart attack, arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat), or other cardiovascular health conditions.
If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, you should not take cyclobenzaprine.
The recommended dosage for cyclobenzaprine is between five to 10 mg (milligram) of tablets three times daily. A 10 mg dosage of cyclobenzaprine is considered a standard moderately strong dosage. Cyclobenzaprine should not be used for longer than two to three weeks.
It is not recommended to take two 10 mg doses at the same time. Be sure to follow instructions from a licensed healthcare provider on when to take your dosage.
Cyclobenzaprine can stay in your system for as long as five to eight days. Depending on your dosage, it may stay in your system for a couple of days longer.
Cyclobenzaprine can cause drowsiness and cause you to sleep for a longer period of time.
It is not recommended to drink while taking cyclobenzaprine.
The most common side effects of cyclobenzaprine include:
- Drowsiness
- Dry mouth
- Constipation
- Heartburn
- Nausea
- Dizziness

Severe side effects that can happen while taking cyclobenzaprine include:
- Skin rashes
- Swelling
- Hives
- Difficulty breathing
- Arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat)
- Chest pain
If you experience any side effects, be sure to speak with your healthcare provider right away.
Cyclobenzaprine may interact with the following medications:
- Nardil (phenelzine)
- Azilect (rasagiline)
- Zelapar (selegiline)
- Parnate (tranylcypromine)
