How to Get Started with the LifeMD Weight Management Program

Published: Aug 12, 2026 Updated: Aug 12, 2026

The LifeMD Weight Management Program combines prescription weight loss medication, lab testing, and ongoing care from licensed providers, all online. Here's a step by step on how to join, what's included, and what to expect once you're a member.

1. Fill Out Your Intake Form

Start with a free online medical intake form. It asks about your health history, your current weight, and your goals. This is how your provider gets a first look at your situation, and it costs nothing to complete.

2. Join the Program

If you're a candidate, you'll join the LifeMD Weight Management Program by starting your membership. This is a monthly subscription that covers your provider care, ongoing check-ins, and support. Your first month is $39, then $75 a month on an annual plan. You'll make your first payment at this point, and you can cancel anytime. Medication is billed separately from your membership.

3. Meet Your Provider

You'll be matched with a LifeMD-affiliated healthcare provider and connect through a video or message-based consult. Your provider reviews your intake information and your health history, then determines whether a weight loss medication is medically appropriate for you.

4. Complete Lab Work, If Needed

Not everyone needs labs. Your provider decides based on your health history, symptoms, and treatment plan, and they'll let you know if testing is required. If it is, the lab order shows up in your patient portal, and your care team walks you through next steps.

You can complete labs at a nearby Quest or Labcorp location. If you'd rather not go in person, at-home test kits are available in the LifeMD Shop for patients outside New York, New Jersey, and Rhode Island. When labs are done at Quest or Labcorp, eligible testing is included in your program cost.

5. Get Your Personalized Plan

Once your provider has everything they need, including lab results if labs were required, they build a weight loss plan around your body, your goals, and your budget.

6. Get Your Prescription

If treatment is medically appropriate, your provider writes your prescription. What you pay for medication depends on your insurance coverage or cash-pay pricing, and your care team helps you find the most affordable option.

7. Receive Your Medication

In many cases, medication ships directly to your door. For some brand-name GLP-1s, your prescription can be sent to the pharmacy of your choice instead, depending on availability.

8. Continue Your Care

Your provider tracks your progress, adjusts your treatment as needed, and stays available throughout. You'll stay connected through your patient portal, where you can message your care team, track your medication, and request renewals anytime.

Everything from your first visit to ongoing check-ins happens from your computer or phone. The only piece that may take you somewhere in person is lab work, and only if your provider requires it.

What Your Membership Includes

Access to weight loss medication

That includes brand-name GLP-1s like Wegovy®, Zepbound®, Foundayo®, and Saxenda®, as well as Triple Therapy, a non-GLP-1 oral option.

Insurance benefits check

Coverage for GLP-1s is complicated, so LifeMD's team works directly with your insurer to find out what your plan covers.

Metabolic lab testing

Metabolic lab testing is included in your program cost when completed at Labcorp or Quest. The exceptions are New York, New Jersey, and Rhode Island, where state regulations prevent telehealth programs from bundling lab fees into your membership. If you live in one of those states, you or your insurance will be billed by the lab directly. Either way, your results shape your plan.

Ongoing provider care

Your provider tracks your progress, adjusts your treatment as needed, and stays available throughout.

What it Costs

The program starts at $39 for your first month, then as low as $75 a month on an annual plan. That covers your clinician consultations, personalized prescriptions, coaching, and lab work if you haven't had the required tests in the last 12 months.

Medication is billed separately. If you're prescribed a GLP-1, what you pay depends on your insurance coverage or whether you're paying out of pocket. Discounted cash-pay pricing is available for many brand-name GLP-1s if you qualify.

Triple Therapy works differently. Medication is included in the cost of that plan.

How Insurance Works

Insurance may cover certain services in the program depending on your state and plan, and in select states LifeMD accepts some commercial insurance plans for qualifying services. Medicare coverage may be available for select services where offered.

For medication, LifeMD's partners work directly with your insurance provider to determine coverage. That's billed separately from your membership.

Coverage varies a lot by state, plan type, and medication, so it's worth reviewing the private insurance and Medicare coverage pages for the most current details.

If your insurance doesn't cover your medication, you still have options. Many patients move forward with cash-pay pricing, with Zepbound vials starting at $299 and Wegovy starting at $199, depending on medical eligibility and supply.

About Lab Work

If you have a BMI of 25 or higher, you may be eligible for GLP-1 treatment with or without a weight-related health condition. Lab work isn't always required in that range. Your provider decides whether it's medically necessary based on your health history, symptoms, and treatment plan.

When labs are needed, eligible testing is included in your program cost if completed at Quest or Labcorp. Due to state regulations, LifeMD can't cover lab service costs for patients in New York, New Jersey, or Rhode Island, and those patients or their insurance are billed by the lab directly. At-home testing kits are available in the LifeMD Shop for patients outside those three states.

Which Medications You Might Be Prescribed

There's no single right treatment here, which is why your provider looks at your medical history, biomarkers, existing conditions, budget, and long-term goals before deciding.

If clinically appropriate, you may be prescribed a brand-name GLP-1. Wegovy® (pill and injection), Zepbound®, and Foundayo®  are FDA-approved for weight management. Ozempic® and Mounjaro® are FDA-approved for type 2 diabetes and may be prescribed off-label for weight loss, with insurance coverage usually tied to a diabetes diagnosis.

Triple Therapy is the non-GLP-1 option LifeMD offers to people who aren't suited to GLP-1 medications, whether for medical, personal, or other reasons. It combines metformin, bupropion, and topiramate in carefully selected doses, taken orally. It's often significantly less expensive than GLP-1 therapy since medication is included in the subscription, and patients who don't medically qualify for a GLP-1 may still qualify for it. The BMI threshold for GLP-1s without a related health condition is 30, while Triple Therapy starts at a BMI of 25.

Getting Your Medication

In many cases, medication can be delivered directly to your door. If you're prescribed a brand-name GLP-1 like Wegovy or Zepbound, your prescription can often be sent to the pharmacy of your choice, depending on availability.

Prescription products can't be returned, and all sales are final. If you think there's been an error in filling your prescription, contact support through your patient portal.

If You Want to Cancel

You can cancel anytime from your patient portal. Click your name and avatar, go to Account Settings, then My Membership, select GLP-1 Weight Management, and choose Cancel or Pause Membership.

Because of the cost of initial diagnostics, ongoing provider care, and insurance support, monthly membership fees already paid aren't refundable.
